Privacy Policy

Last updated: [Month DD, YYYY]

Waqfa is built local-first. Your remembrance lives on your device, not on our servers. This policy explains what we do — and don’t — do with your information.

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up. You can use Waqfa without ever giving us your name or email.
  • Your adhkar, counts, streaks, collections, and settings are stored on your device.
  • We show no ads, run no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and never sell your data.
  • A few features (like Waqfa Lens and purchases) involve other services — those are described below.

What we store on your device

The information you create in Waqfa stays in the app’s local storage on your phone or tablet. This includes:

  • Your adhkar routine, collections, and tasbeeh counts
  • Your streaks and progress history
  • Your settings — including your chosen theme, reminders, and prayer-time preferences
  • Adhkar you add with Waqfa Lens

We do not receive a copy of this data. If you uninstall the app, it is removed with it. You can export your own data from within the app at any time.

What leaves your device

Waqfa Lens (scanning)

When you choose to scan a page, the photo you capture is sent over an encrypted connection to our processing service (hosted on Cloudflare) and a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) that reads the Arabic text in the image. We use the result only to suggest adhkar for you to add to your routine. The image is used to perform the scan and is not retained by us afterwards, and your scans are not used to build a profile of you.

Purchases

If you buy an optional upgrade, the transaction is handled by Apple’s App Store or Google Play (and our subscription provider, where applicable). We receive confirmation that a purchase is active, but we never see your full payment details.

What does not leave your device

Prayer times are calculated on your device from your location — your coordinates are used locally and are not sent to us. Notifications are scheduled locally by your operating system.

What we never do

  • We don’t serve advertising.
  • We don’t embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
  • We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
  • We don’t sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Permissions we ask for

Each permission is optional and requested only when a feature needs it:

  • Camera — so Waqfa Lens can scan a printed page.
  • Location — to calculate accurate prayer times for where you are. You can also set your location manually instead.
  • Notifications — to remind you of your adhkar and prayers, if you turn reminders on.
  • Screen Time — so the Waqfa pause can show a verse before the apps you choose.

Third-party services

Waqfa relies on a small number of trusted services to provide specific features:

  • Cloudflare — secure infrastructure that powers Waqfa Lens.
  • Anthropic — the AI that reads the Arabic text in a scanned page.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — app distribution and any purchases.

Each of these services has its own privacy practices, which govern how they handle the limited data they receive.

Children’s privacy

Waqfa is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under [13 / the age required in your region]. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data is stored on your device, you are in control of it. Deleting the app removes your data. Scans processed by Waqfa Lens are not retained by us after the scan completes.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information. Since Waqfa keeps your data on your own device and requires no account, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the app. For anything else, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we’ll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes may also be highlighted in the app.
